Voting Begins for British Poker Awards

The British Poker Awards are an annual ceremony celebrating the best of the U.K. poker scene. Voting has just opened up for British voters to weigh in on the best players in a number of categories. Last year, Alex Kanu7 Millar of Team PokerStars Online received the player of the year award.

The event took place at the Hippodrome Casino in London, where the top British and European poker players came to celebrate and to see who would take home the gold. Michael Caselli, editor in chief for event organizer Bluff Europe, points to the success of the 2013 awards as reason enough to get excited for the 2014 event.

The awards will feature an expert panel, which will include Matthew Pitt from Poker News, Barry Carter from Poker Strategy, CalvinAyre.com’s Lee Davy, Nic Levi from Ranking Hero, Nic Sceremeta, the creator of Late Night Poker, and poker commentator Jesse May, along with Casselli.

A number of new awards will be presented in this year’s event, including the Hand of the Year award to celebrate those amazing plays that blew us away this year.

For some, the idea of poker awards may seem odd. Isn’t the award for great playing simply taking home the pot? Others are more open to the fact that top poker players are not just top players, but celebrities in their own right nowadays. The British Poker Awards are a reminder that there’s a whole community out there that looks to the top players for inspiration.
